Walford, a blind preacher, of Coleshill, Warwickshire, England. Not much is actually known of Rev. Walford but the words he wrote for the song known as, "Sweet Hour Of Prayer". The poem he wrote was first published in a local newspaper and noted in 1860 by William Batchelder Bradbury, a composer from New York, Bradbury wrote the tune that is usually associated with this song. Bradbury also composed the music for other well- known hymns, including: "Jesus Loves Me," "He Leadeth Me," "Just as I Am," "Jesus Like a Savior Lead Us," and "The Solid Rock."He asked the Observer to publish these words "if you think them worthy of preservation." The newspaper agreed that the wordswere worthy, and published them in its September 13, 1845 issue.
