The Cherokee Nation, known as the Fire People, was civilized and progressive. The people worked hard, established a civil government and, in general, sought the good life. The nation's capital, New Echota, was located in northwest Georgia in the early 1800s. Gold was discovered on Cherokee land in 1828, igniting a rush for their gold and land. The Cherokees were evicted at gunpoint from their homes and land and then forced to march over 800 miles on what is now known as the Trail of Tears.Music score by VicDiesel, Creative Commons License, Attribution Share alike
